VICE PRESIDENT – SCIENCE, MEDICINE AND PUBLIC HEALTH

The American Medical Association (AMA) is seeking an experienced professional with a thorough understanding of science, preventive health and public health issues. A visionary leader with expertise, a national reputation and broad interests in medicine and/or public health is sought to lead AMA programs in these areas. The Vice President will guide the programmatic work of the area’s divisions: Center for Public Health Preparedness and Disaster Response; Science, Research and Technology; and Medicine and Public Health. Responsibilities include providing a vision in this area for AMA organizational bodies, development of strategic goals, development of educational programming and materials and staff management. External relationships include the CDC, FDA and state and specialty medical societies. For additional information, visit www.ama-assn.org.
Qualifications include: Doctoral degree required (MD/DO, DPH or PhD). Public health degree and/or experience are ideal. Demonstrated expertise in the area, including relevant publication record and leadership and achievement within medicine and/or public health is necessary. A minimum of ten years’ experience in a professional management position, including working effectively with organizational governance, is desired. Successful candidates will exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills, polished negotiation and coalition-building skills, budgetary development and management experience (including grants and contracts) and human resource management, including staff development. Strong planning and project management skills for multiple projects in a high-volume workload are needed. Approximately 25% travel will be required for this Chicago-based position.
