Step
III tests can be taken in the Greater Atlanta Area at Prometric
Centers( http://www.prometric.com/default.htm
), formerly called Sylvan Technology Centers.
First, you need to register with
USMLE to take Step III. The basic requirements to take Step
III is passing Step I and Step II and completing a medical degree. In
addition, certain states have other requirements, such as for a Georgia medical license, where
International Medical Graduates are required to complete two years of residency
before sitting for the exam. HOWEVER, Any IMG physician -- currently in the Unites States can apply to take
USMLE Step III for possible future licensure in Florida after being
ECFMG-certified, without completing any years of residency.
Once Step III is
passed, then it is the physician’s decision which state or states the physician
actually applies to for licensure.According
to the Prometric Centers, formerly called the Sylvan
Technology Centers, the USMLE test for ANY state can be taken from ANY Prometric Center. The closest Prometric Center to Grady is at the Georgia State
Counseling Center Building Room 307 for actually taking Step III [Telephone:
(404) 651-3816 – reportedly often busy], and Room 309 is the main office. The
official address of this Center is 106 Courtland Street which is near the
intersection of Gilmer and Courtland. This is about two blocks from the Grady
Piedmont Garage where residents usually park.To
become a USMLE Step III Permit Holder for 90 days for possible future licensure
in Florida or other states, and most importantly, to enable you to schedule
your test date at a Prometric Center for Step III,
print the USMLE STEP III application from the Federation of State Medical Board
Website: www.fsmb.org or ask Yulonda if you can photocopy her copy of the application.
After you have filled this
out and sent it in accompanied by all required notarized documents, you
should receive a Step III Permit, and become a Step
III Permit Holder. Then you can call the national number: 1-800-633-3926
or 1-800-967-1100 or the GA State # above.
