4. From the AMA The AMA is soliciting nominations to fill vacancies that will occur on AMA councils for the year 2000. Anyone who wishes to be nominated by AAPHP must be a member of AMA. 5. Fairfax County Health Department Position.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR,   FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA (Population: 950,000)
Salary open DOQ. Fairfax County is the largest local government in Virginia. Position reports to the Deputy County Executive for Human Services and oversees a budget of $29 million with 547 employees. Will direct an urban health department with 12 field sites, an administrative office and an active laboratory. Must have a current license or be eligible to practice medicine in Virginia (certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine is preferred); an advanced degree in public health; and knowledge of health policy formulation, community health assessment, health planning, and environmental health programs. Should have proven experience as a senior manager in a local health department with a wide range of health services at multiple sites (including communicable disease control,  maternal and child health, adult day health care, comprehensive primary care and laboratory support), preferably in an urban/suburban area.
