5. Fairfax County Health Department
Position.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR, FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA (Population: 950,000)
Salary open DOQ. Fairfax County is the largest local government in Virginia.
Position reports to the Deputy County Executive for Human Services and oversees
a budget of $29 million with 547 employees. Will direct an urban health
department with 12 field sites, an administrative office and an active
laboratory. Must have a current license or be eligible to practice medicine in
Virginia (certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine is
preferred); an advanced degree in public health; and knowledge of health policy
formulation, community health assessment, health planning, and environmental
health programs. Should have proven experience as a senior manager in a local
health department with a wide range of health services at multiple sites
(including communicable disease control, maternal and child health, adult
day health care, comprehensive primary care and laboratory support), preferably
in an urban/suburban area.
